About Me

I'm Barry - your therapist, should you decide to become a client. I would like to tell you a little about myself.

I live in Yoxall which is a village about half way between Burton-on-Trent and Lichfield.  I have lived there with my wife, Carol, for over 35 years.  We have three fantastic children who have now left the village and are now finding their own ways in life.

This is where I run my practice, in a separate and adapted part of our home.

My working life, before becoming a therapist was very varied from Merchant Navy Officer to Computer Systems Specialist.

When the children were small, I became very interested in psychology and took a degree with the Open University which concentrated mainly on Psychology. Since then I have had a passionate interest in psychology and its application with real people living real lives.about 4 years ago I decided that it was time to do something that was really interesting and rewarding and I embarked upon a 12 month course in integrated hypnotherapy, psychology and counselling to develop my academic knowledge for more practical use. I achieved accredited certifications to practice in these approaches and have been working with people for about 4 years now to help them to understand and resolve their problems.

It is a condition of my professional affiliations that my training continues, to keep me up to date with new knowledge.

I believe my unusually varied background and broad experience of life can bring added understanding and value to my counselling work with people.

Personal Approach

* I do not work as a part of a larger practice so you will always deal with me, personally.
* I will treat you as an important individual whether it's a single hypnotherapy session to stop smoking, one or two counselling and hypnotherapy sessions to address a phobia or a longer investigation of complex issues.
* The therapeutic approach or approaches that we will use will be chosen to suit you personally. I will not force you into any one particular type of therapy.
* I do not book clients end-to-end as I need to take time with your notes before and after sessions to give your case a proper amount of attention.
* I do not employ a receptionist so there is no booking-in procedure or waiting. I meet you personally on your arrival.
